Pioneers of the New Romantic movement, the synth-pop grouping Visage emerged in 1978 from the London club Billy's, a neo-glam nightclub which stood in blunt railway line to the prevailing toughie mind-set of the moment. Spearheading Billy's ultra-chic business were Steve Strange, a other dude member of the punk band the Moors Murderers, as well as DJ Rusty Egan, onetime drummer with the Rich Kids; seeking to record medicine of their possess to check in with the club's regular play heel (a unconstipated diet of David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Roxy Music), Strange and Egan were offered studio time by another Rich Kids alum, guitar player Midge Ure. In belated 1978, this trine recorded a demo which yielded the commencement Visage single, an aptly-futuristic cover of Zager & Evans' "In the Year 2525."

Adding Ultravox keyboardist Billy Currie as well as three members of Magazine -- bassist Barry Adamson, guitar player John McGeoch, and keyboardist Dave Formula -- Visage sign to Radar Records to button "Mariner" in September 1979, followed a year afterward by their self-titled debut LP. The album yielded a major individual in "Melt to Grey," an inst lodge classical which heralded synth-pop's close at hand commercial-grade find. The followup, "Mind of a Toy," was a Top 20 hit, only after releasing 1982's The Anvil, Visage began to disintegrate -- first Ure exited to focus all of his energies on fronting Ultravox, then Currie and Formula bust ranks as well. 1984's Beat Boys was the group's net recording, although a remixed "Fade to Grey" was a UK Top 40 hit during the early '90s.

Trombone legend Fred Wesley is Groovesect's funk mentor

Trombonist Fred Wesley co-wrote two critical chapters in funk history. He was music director, arranger and a basal composer for James Brown from 1968 to 1975, then played out several long time with George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic projects.

The legend's latest collaborators? Groovesect, a New Orleans instrumental funk band composed mostly of recent graduates from the Tulane and UNO jazz programs.

Wesley guests on troika songs from Groovesect's 2007 debut, "On the Brim," and afterward toured with the dance band. Tonight he joins Groovesect onstage at the House of Blues, part of the first-ever Cutting Edge Music Business Conference vitrine at the venue.

"I like to think if Fred thought we were bad musicians, he wouldn't do it," aforementioned Groovesect bassist Eric Vogel. "The fact that Fred wants to hang out and play gigs, that means the most to us. It's an honour. He could take a gig with anybody. He's Fred Wesley, one of the fathers of funk."

Wesley returns the compliment.

"They're a young band, but a good ring," the trombonist said this week from his household in South Carolina. "They work hard. They practice like maniacs. They're very dedicated to the music. They want to get wind funky music, and I'm here to help them."

Vogel and future Groovesect guitarist Danny Abel and keyboardist Nick Krawitz first crossed paths as members of Tulane's jazz band in the early 2000s. Abel eventually transferred to UNO and met drummer Colin Davis. The foursome worked the fraternity party tour as a funk ring called Soda Popinski.

In 2006, they rechristened themselves Groovesect. In 2007, they added saxophonist Tim "Sully" Sullivan, an alumnus of Aretha Franklin's stripe who stirred to New Orleans to enroll in UNO's jazz graduate computer program. They likewise recruited acclaimed New Orleans percussionist Alfred "Uganda" Roberts, whose epical resume includes Professor Longhair, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, 101 Runners, Deacon John and Willie Tee & the Gaturs.

The alliance with Wesley instantly elevated Groovesect's national profile. The seeds of the collaboration were sown on Feb. 2, 2007. That night, Groovesect's manager, Justin Aliperti, promoted a sold-out James Brown tribute concert at Tipitina's featuring Wesley backed by local drummer Johnny Vidacovich and bassist George Porter Jr. The members of Groovesect opened the designate, and asked Wesley to sit in for one song.

"He comes out for the ane song, and ends up staying for three," Vogel said. "That began the relationship. And it's been fantastic ever since."

Wesley in agreement to wager on those same trey songs on "On the Brim." And because his own Fred Wesley Group works more often than not overseas, he was swell to go with Groovesect. Billed either as "Groovesect featuring Fred Wesley" or "Fred Wesley featuring Groovesect," they jam on Groovesect originals and James Brown classics -- a peculiarly mind-blowing circumstance for the young musicians.

"In middle and high school, before I was even playing music, I listened to James Brown," Vogel said. "Then when you start to play your instrument, you learn those songs. All the horn lines that you hum in your head -- never in a zillion years did I consider I'd be playing them with the man himself.

"Fred was the bandleader. To be taking cues from the leader . . . we flirt what Fred wants us to play. We study Fred's cues, just as he would take them from James. It's surreal."

Wesley runs a tight ship. "He shows us no mercy," Vogel said. "You hit a wrong billet, you better believe Fred hears it. He's departure to sprain around, select a look at you for a second and set you straight."

He also encouraged his young charges to expand their repertoire into blues.

"We'd just been focused on the grooves, intense jams, funk and jazz," Vogel said. "All of his suggestions are crucial lessons. Everything he says is golden."

And non just on the bandstand.

"Going on the road with him, acquisition life lessons . . . I can't even explicate everything he's done for us, as far as being a role model," Vogel aforesaid. "We want to be as skillful as we can and have as much fun as we can. There's nobody better to take those lessons from than Fred."

Wesley's story with New Orleans predates Groovesect by five decades. Growing up in Mobile, Ala., he often made the 150-mile commute to New Orleans to mob with the likes of drummer Smokey Johnson and saxophonists Red Tyler and Nat Perrilliat.

More recently, he appeared on the 2007 compilation "Goin' Home: A Tribute to Fats Domino" alongside his former JB Horns bandmates Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis, Lenny Kravitz, the Rebirth Brass Band and Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews on "Whole Lotta Loving."

Post-Parliament, Wesley joined the Count Basie Orchestra and released jazz albums as a solo artist and with his Fred Wesley Group. He essentially retired from funk until, around 1990, former James Brown Band vocalizer Bobby Byrd suggested he was lacking out on the music's renewed popularity.

"I had no idea it would last this long and be this popular," Wesley said.

In the orgasm weeks, he'll tour as part of an African music protection to Brown, followed by a long fall tour with bassist Bootsy Collins' Brown tribute. (That show comes to the House of Blues on Oct. 25.)

But in Groovesect, he's found a mutually solid partnership with young players who get wind from him, even as they provide a new perspective on his have legacy.

"I'll find time for Groovesect," Wesley said, "and I'll rule time to do my own thing."

Statement On The U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services' Proposed Rule On ICD-10

America's hospitals strongly support moving forward to ICD-10, a fresh coding system that will allow for better affected role quality through improved health technology and data compendium. We applaud the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) proposal to move forward with the borrowing of this important scheme.

To improve health upkeep services our hospitals need a robust coding assortment system. ICD-10 is an important parting of hospital efforts to improve and provide quality care for patients providing greater specificity and detail about disease and unwellness.

As health care becomes increasingly complex, the stream system, ICD-9-CM, is outdated and nearing its capacity to admit the addition of novel codes. This significant defect impedes the adoption of new wellness technology, hinders quality data collection and analysis and creates less accurate reimbursement. The acceptance of ICD-10 is long over imputable and the replacement to ICD-9-CM has been discussed over the past ten years.

We urge CMS to quickly undertake the regulatory march to replace ICD-9-CM with ICD-10. The AHA recognizes that the health care field will need a minimum of two age to implement ICD-10. The issuance of this rulemaking process alerts health fear organizations to begin preparations for its eventual acceptance.

Hospitals ar encouraged by today's rule and ar fully supportive of the transition. We look forth to working closely with CMS on the inside information of the rule and process for implementation.

Q&A: Hits keep coming for reality guru Darnell

Q&A: Hits keep coming for reality guru Darnell

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Newsman) - Charles James Fox chief Executive of alternative entertainment Microphone Darnell is responsible for close to of the most vilified world series ever so created -- "The Stray," "Married by The States," "World Health Organization Wants to Tie a Multimillionaire?" and "Temptation Island."

Yet members of Hollywood's creative community routinely depict him, without nictation, as a genius. This past year, it's been easily to run across why: Darnell's path criminal record for creating successful unscripted titles during a difficult period for fresher broadcast series has been closely perfect tense. He's launched "Ar You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?," "Don't Forget the Lyrics," "Kitchen Nightmares" and the season's highest-rated freshly show, "The Moment of Sojourner Truth."

Darnell wheel spoke to The Hollywood Reporter around the ratings decline of "American English Paragon"; the one series he wishes didn't air; and his best thought that you've never seen.

Q: You're known for creating catchy titles. What do you look for?

Microphone Darnell: Something simple that grabs you. In the c. H. Best cases, the title itself is sufficiency to drive you to view the show up with no footage and no promo. When we did "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?," I think people would have watched based on statute title solely. Length doesn't matter -- I used to drive in arguments about that wholly the time. All that matters is that it says what it is.

Q: Your competitors take invested in celebrity reality series. Ar you interested in that musical genre for Fox?

Darnell: Not much. The celebrity thing whole kit when the content is grand and fits with the thought of celebrities. So First rudiment "Dance With the Stars" is perfect. I knew CBS' "Arcanum Talents of the Stars" was sledding to die because it's a bad concept and no one cares. Also, VH1 does it better than most, and they tin can go farther than almost. So I think it's fruitless to hold passing down that road.

Q: Is "American Idol" unavoidably on the other english of its ratings peak?
